MARIA VAN ALLEN FNP BC CNC, MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Maria Van Allen is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner credentialed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and a Certified Nutrition Consultant. She began her career by working at a traumatic brain injury unit which specialized in behavior modification. Since that time she has logged nearly 24 years of experience in various areas of patient care. She has experience in psychiatric care, Hospital administration and pediatric and adult  urgent care. She was also a first a responder on 9/11 at ground zero. Maria has worked at Diet of Hope since 2011.

In addition to her extensive clinical experience, Maria also has an outstanding background that includes a BS in nursing and a Master's Degree of Science from Regis College in Weston, MA.

CARRIE CANNON PMHNP-BC

Carrie Cannon is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Her medical career and specialty in health and wellness began in high school where she worked in a local clinic. This expanded to years of working in fitness, nutrition education, and medicine.

She became a RN in 2006 and worked in several different specialties including Med/Surg ICU, Pain Clinic, Wound Care, and Ambulatory Care. She received her degree as a Nurse Practitioner in 2016. In 2022, she received her certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and specializes in disordered easting such as emotional/stress eating, nutrition education, and daily habit formation to reach health goals. She has been with DOH since 2016. 

GINA MONTANO AGNP-C

Gina Montano started her nursing career in 2002 as a licensed practical nurse while continuing the associates degree program at Pima Community College. She began her career as a LPN in the Ortho rehab and received her ADN in 2003. She has since worked in a variety of settings including Women's Health, Urology, Bariatric Care, and Perioperative services. 

In 2003 she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Chamberlin College of Nursing and a Master's of Science in Nursing from Walden University. She received her certification as an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners shortly after graduating from Walden University. She has been with DOH since 2017.

ARLETTE STEVENS CASTANO NP-C

Arlette Stevens Castano, MSN, NP-C is a board certified Adult Nurse Practitioner credentialed by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners since 2006 and has been a registered nurse since 2001. She is a graduate from the University of Arizona Baccalaureate and Masters programs. Arlette has always had an interest in prevention of diseases, improving health via food, and educating the public. She is a native Arizonan and bilingual in English/Spanish. She has a background in medical/surgical, working at the Tucson and Phoenix VA, women's health, Ear/Nose/Throat, pain management, community/population health, and palliative care.  

DIET OF HOPE HAWAII, LARAE BARNES FNP-C,

LaRae Barnes is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner since 2013 and in the medical profession since 1999. LaRae comes from a big family and developed an interest in helping others through her family and extended family. When her father passed away at a young age from a heart attack she became even more interested in teaching others how to prevent illness. 

She is a fluent Spanish speaker and relocated to the Big Island from Tucson, Az in 2016. Prior to her move, she worked at Diet of Hope Institute and became a Certified Nutrition Counselor. She started her career as an APRN as a pioneer in integrated medical/behavioral health by starting a medical clinic embedded in the behavioral health setting to assist people with serious mental illness to obtain primary care services. Her areas of medical interest include sleep medicine, behavioral health, nutrition, vascular, women's health, and family practice.
